FISH!

"Fish are never too busy to be frightened" thought Piper, referring to one of her dearest books, The Large and Growly Bear. Though she wasn't looking to frighten the fish, I can't imagine they were welcoming of a bright eyed face smashed against the side of their home. Yes we have fish. When Grandma & Grandpa Barnes visited last, they brought a little friend, which eventually turned into 4 friends, because really, who want's to be alone in a fish bowl? Soon Broc pulled out his handy dandy laptop and found a low maintenance tank to better accommodate them. Piper named the first "Fishy," and we took the reigns from there: Lady, Nemo & Oliver.
It seems we're getting behind on posting. Though my intentions are good, Broc has to take his camera to work most days. I simply refuse to post without a picture of Piper, because truly, who cares otherwise? There is so much to tell, but for fear of overwhelming you, I will have to spread it out. Fish are a very stimulating topic. Yep, take it all in...

a second of your time please

I know everyone gets sick and tired hearing about our kid, but when you get as bored as we do it is the only stop the fun train makes in this town. If you think you think you can muster up a 1:28 the payoff is close to the end but the whole thing is worth while... and forgive the camera because I couldn't help but take part in the activities! -Broc

spot of tea

After a fun filled weekend of Grandparents, Piper and I enjoyed some down time today. Heaps of books and tea for two. We both agreed that it was a splendid day.

Sew, a needle pulling thread. La, a note to follow Sew

You may know this, but I find joy in clothing. Please understand, I know it won't change my life to have apparel that satisfies my taste. I suppose aesthetics are in some way a hobby. The combination of texture, color, drape, structure & pattern make me squeal with delight. Similar to the way Piper does over fruit snacks. We don't have the resources to allow me to have fabulous clothing, so I mostly look. It's probably a good thing, because boy I could really do some damage.
In efforts to satisfy my creative desires, I begged my mother to bring my sewing machine last time they came for a visit. Thanks Mom! It had taken up residence with my parents since I hadn't really shown much interest in it prior. I bought some clearanced out, easily pliable fabrics to practice on. Here is my first disaster of a sun dress, which is much too large for Piper. Keep in mind all you hardcore sweater sewing Susie's, you've got to start somewhere, right?

Snow

Here I was thinking moving would get us out of such wintry weather, but as you can see, I was wrong. Piper thought we ought to make the best out of our dreary situation, so that we did. After 10 minutes of preparation, Piper satisfied her outside fix within 2. She politely said "all done please," followed by a chattering "cold."

I guess it's my turn

Sam started this thing in hopes that people would take time to follow us on our new found journey (not as cool as the band) and the sad reality is that i know most of this is going to be read by distanced family and friends who don't want to hear me ramble on the phone. So i'm on to all of you, and don't think that i don't spend most nights crying myself to sleep.
People are constantly asking me "Broc, what is it that you do now that your working for the man?" and i have to answer "I don't really know... on a couple of levels". I am working in a Basic Training unit as an assistant to the Executive Officer (he does most of the scheduling and some of the admin stuff) but the reality is that my class date is so close that i can't be put into a full time position because i won't be there long enough. They found out that i'm nutty about photography so they told me to spend most of my time taking photos of training. Which is awesome, cause there really is nothing better than watching some stinky privates being yelled at by Drill Sergeants and thanking God that i'm on the other side of that now.

you all are a filthy bunch of liars if you can tell me you wouldn't mind having to deal with something that would cause semi rational people to have to wear something like that... even on your best day

and yes, it is a scary thought, they are training us to fight ninjas in the Army... and pirates and zombies, but don't you civilians worry, we're going to keep you safe

See what i mean, aren't all of you at least angry that you made it this far down the page and are still awake,  you would have been far better off finding something on youtube or stumbleupon... until next time

Paper Fun

In the past Broc & I wouldn't concern ourselves with silly holidays like Valentines Day, but I've decided for Piper sake this year will be different. The truth is, I relish at the opportunity to get out my pretty selection of card stock & create something lovely. With that said, Piper and I spent the morning gussying up the house with paper hearts & valentines. We both enjoyed the change of activities very much. It might be time to dust off this old hobby of mine.
